Velcro – friend or foe?

image

That clever hook and loop fastener – one quick tap and it joins itself together, one quick tug and it comes apart …

Are you a fan?

For me, the downside is that Velcro and wool don’t get on. And in my yarny world, that’s a challenge.

Is there a way of stopping my scarves, shawls and mitts getting snagged in the Velcro on my jacket or my shopping bag?

Have you found a solution? I’d love to know how you’ve solved it and what you recommend.

Thanks for your help 🙂

Remove velcro from jackets and shopping bag and replace with poppers. I am always getting my hair snagged on velcro in jackets where there’s a hood hidden in the collar, drives me NUTS! Protect the yarn – banish velcro!

I do not like velcro. My solution is to avoid it whenever possible. I bought a winter coat with buttons 🙂

Yes, snaps are better. I’m not confident that I could remove the Velcro neatly enough on jackets … I’ll test it out on my bag and see how it goes! Thanks for your suggestion 🙂

  4. I’m not a big fan of velcro either. Definitely does not play well with yarn!

    LOL Swiss bag… Swiss velcro…a Swiss invention!… ;o

But you’re quite right, a nuisance with woolly things – mostly, I try to avoid it but I suppose removing it is an option.

I’m drawn to all things Swiss 😀 Removing the Velcro seems to be the only way, but I’m conscious it would leave marks where the stitching had been. Not a massive issue on a shopping bag, but I’d think twice for a jacket/coat. On a positive note, at least this new knowledge will help me narrow down my future coat-buying options 😀
